A trip, through time, across West Central Texas.

Our recent STGS Field Trip from Castroville to Eagle Pass was a geologically and historical journey through time. We took a look at the fiery demise of the limestones and the subsequent rise of the clastics in the Late Cretaceous of West Central Texas. We noted the influence of terrain & water on the settlement of this area.
Through the use of maps and images, Tom Fett will review the field trip and present a variety of topics related to the march of civilization through this area. Many new computer, smart phone & internet technologies were used to put together this presentation and will be illustrated. These new technologies facilitated a review of the wealth of information that is available. This information comes from sources such as the GCAGS, AAPG, BEG, STGS and others.  Much of the most pertinent geological papers were authored by own local experts.
A quick review of recent field trips to this area will highlight how these types of outings have allowed us to better understand our rich local geology and history.  Not to mention that: “even a poor day in the field beats a day at the office”!

Tom Fett serves as the current STGS Field Trip Coordinator. He retired from Schlumberger in 1999, after 32 years in various assignments around the world. He is currently a consultant specializing in the use of wireline devices for geologic applications, with a primary focus on borehole imaging devices such as the FMI.
