STGS 2016 Spring Field Trip to Eagle Pass

Assembly point: just east of Haby’s Bakery in Castroville*

207 Old US Hwy 90 E, Castroville, TX 78009

*We will car pool in so far as possible & can leave cars by Haby’s

8 AM to 5 PM (We will depart promptly at 8 AM!)

Cost $35 each ($20 for students)

The focus of our trip will be the Upper Cretaceous Sands (Escondido, Olmos & San Miguel)

STOP 1          Igneous Intrusions at Black Water Hole on Frio River        (Tom Ewing)

STOP 2        Escondido @ Smythe River Crossing on Nueces River    (Cross bedded)

Bathroom break (if needed):  Stripes @ 312 W Main St, Uvalde, TX 78801

STOP 3          Olmos at Chittim Arch on CR 481          (Tectonic Setting – Tom Ewing)

Lunch:  Danny’s Mexican Food @ 2647 N Veterans Blvd, Eagle Pass, TX 78852

STOP 3        San Miguel Formation @ Quemado   (Bonnie Weise - her thesis area)

STOP 4        Olmos Formation @ Seco Creek          (Andrew Scott - coals in Olmos)

STOP 5        Olmos @ Eagle Pass Industrial Park           (Depositional Environments)

STOP 6        Escondido @Hampton Inn Eagle Pass parking lot           (Great ripples!)

Return to Castroville (2-hour drive), NOTE: ATT coverage good over most of trip
